Prvi put od 1979. godine objavljen je uži spisak kandidata za Oskara u kategorijama najbolje originalne pesme i filmske muzike, pre samih nominacija
Na listi od 15 pesama nalaze se Tom Jork (“Suspirium”) Kendrik Lamar i SZA (“All the stars”), Šade (“The Big Unknown”), Lejdi Gaga i Bredli Kuper (“Shallow”).
Među istaknutim imenima u kategoriji najbolje originalne filmske muzike, nalaze se Džef Berou i Ben Salizburi (“Annihilation”), muzika za “Crnog Pantera”, “BlacKkKlansman”, i drugi. Zanimljivo je da Jork, premda ima nominaciju za pesmu, nije uspeo da uđe u izbor za kompletnu muziku za film “Suspiria”. Među ranije projektovanim favoritima, nije se našao ni Jorkov kolega iz Radioheada, Džoni Grinvud (snimio muziku za “Zaista, nikad nisi bio ovde”), odnosno Johan Johanson (“Mendi”).
Žiri će listu od 15 kandidata skratiti na 5 nominacija, 22. januara.
