Sinoć je u Americi održana MTV VMA dodela nagrada – prva dodela nagrada tokom pandemije koronavirusa, i kako je MTV ranije najavio, održana je online. Pop zvezda Lejdi Gaga bila je najnagrađivaniji umetnik večeri, sa pet nagrada, uključujući specijalnu TRICON nagradu, čiji naziv u doslovnom prevodu znači “trostruki kontejner”.
Nagrada se odnosi na njenu svestranost i činjenicu da se bavi muzikom, glumom i humanitarnim radom. Neobičnog imena i kateogrije, nagrada je dodeljena prvi put ove godine, a Gaga je tim povodom održala emotivni govor u kojem se zahvalila svojim fanovima i apelovala na ljude da i dalje nose maske.
– Ova nagrada mi mnogo znači. Stvaram muziku otkako sam bila devojčica. I iako sam imala velike snove, nikada nisam mogla da zamislim da ću jednog dana dobiti nagradu koja će obeležiti sve čime se u životu bavim. Tokom karijere sam imala mnogo uspona i badova, i kao glumica i kao pevačica, ali kada sada pogledam unazad, humanitarni rad je postao mnogo značajniji za moj život u Holivudu. Pokrenula sam fondaciju “Born This Way” koju i dalje vodim – rekla je Gaga i dodala:
– Volela bih da podelim ovu nagradu sa svima kod kuće večeras, sa svima koji se osećaju kao “trostruki kontejner”. Zastanite i nagradite sebe za svoju hrabrost. Ovo nije bila laka godina ni za koga, ali ono što vidim je neverovatni trijumf hrabrosti. Nadam se da će ljudi kod kuće koji imaju velike snove videti mene danas na ovoj sceni i znati koliko sam zahvalana na svemu. Vi možete da postignete isto. Ne želim ništa drugo nego da budem vaš umetnik godine. To je privilegija. Volim vas, ostanite zdravo, govorite kao što mislite i nosite masku, to je znak poštovanja.
Lejdi Gaga je dobila još četiri nagrade i postala najnagrađivaniji umetnik večeri – nagradu za najbolju pesmu godine, nagradu za najbolju kolaboraciju godine, nagradu za najbolju kinematografiju i nagradu za najboljeg umetnika godine.
Korejska K-POP grupa BTS, odnela je četiri nagrade – za najbolju grupu, najbolji pop, najbolji K-POP i nagradu za najbolju koreografiju. Muzičar The Weeknd, dobio je nagradu za video godine.
