Pesme koje podstiču novu renesansu ovog žanra možda ga neće oživeti u potpunosti, ali od britanskog muzičara Yungbluda do repera koji je postao roker Machine Gun Kellyja do Roc Nation zvezde Willow, svima je zajedničko to što su inspiraciju pronašli među izvođačima koji su pop-punk uopšte učinili mejnstrimom.

Kao što mu ime govori, pop punk ima svoje korene u punk rocku. Žanr, koji je preuzeo agresivni zvuk panka i obukao ga u pop melodije, postao je poznat još 1990-ih, a zatim je masovno eksplodirao 2000-ih. Ali pop punk zapravo ima svoje korene u 1970-im kada su bendovi poput Ramones, Buzzcocks i The Undertones postavili temelje za novu scenu i zvuk.

Bendovi poput Wendents, Green Day, Blink-182 i Paramore odneli su pop-pank na različita mesta u različitim epohama. Ali baš kao i danas, sve se vraća na osnovne elemente brzog tempa, glasnih gitara, promena power akorda i pop melodija.
